Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.

The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–2:30 pm. It is closed on Tuesday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (415) 386-0388. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is baobaodumplingca.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.6 out of 5 from 157 reviews, which is a strong result for a chinese restaurant in San Francisco and suggests consistent service.

One of the worst Shanghai dumpling I’ve ever had. Their Shu Mai skin is super thick and the filling is oily. Their θ…Œη¬ƒι²œ(bamboo shoot soup with pork) is full of MSG and salt but lacks flavor. The bamboo shoot is not fresh and has a weird odor. The η”Ÿη…Ž is ok. And of course everything is overpriced. Don’t be fooled by the promotion on XHS. The food is terrible.

Great Shanghai dumpling cuisine with great service and good atmosphere. We came here for a late night snack and got the veggie dumplings, the mushroom veg buns and the fried pancake. The pancake was crispy and excellent, with a side of old-fashioned hot sauce that complemented it very well. The veggie dumplings had unique fillings and tasted a little peppery, but very well made. The buns were delicious and the skin was fluffy, although I wouldn’t mind it being a more chewy. Service was good and they give you a big kettle of hot tea when you sit down, so I appreciated that. Would come back anytime for some good new items on the menu.

If you like Dumplings, this is the place. We love the steam and fry dumplings. Both dumplings were freshly made, very tasty and flavorful on every bite. The fried noodles were light and tasty, not greasy like other noodle varieties. The spicy eggplant green beans were flavorful. All portions were very generous. Prices for the dishes were reasonable. Definitely going back for more.

We dined in and got 3 of our go-tos to test the food first: 1. Steamed soup dumplings (aka xiao long bao aka siu long bao aka XLB) 2. Pan fried buns (aka shen jian bao aka san jin bao) 3. Shanghai style stir-fried rice cakes (aka Shanghai chow nin go) Everything was too sweet for our tastes, and we found a hair in one of our dishes (CNG). Not expecting anything but an argument for a complaint at a restaurant of our people, we removed the chunk with the hair in it and said nothing. We just won't be back. The XLB were juicy but sweet and too gingery. The ginger is supposed to be julienned into the vinegar dipping sauce, where you can control the amount, not inside the meat where you can't. The SJB were so sweet that they were still sweet microwaved the next day, which usually removes the sweet taste from too-sweet SJB in my experience. The CNG, aside from also being sweet and hairy (a description I like to hear about dogs and cats, not food), were a little too soft and not chewy enough. I was disappointed but not surprised there were no shiitake mushrooms in it, which is a staple ingredient in this dish in Asia and in New York and Las Vegas Chinatowns, but for some reason is eith

I have been wanting to try this spot for a bit and overall was super satisfied with everything we ordered. We began with the Jellyfish Salad which was seasoned well with a nice crunchy texture. We also had the steamed pork soup dumplings that were juicy and full of flavor. The winner of the day was definitely the House Special Shengjian Baos. Delicious crispy bottom with a nice and chewy top. These baos were so so good! We got the boiled dumplings which were ok. To finish we got the Pork Zha Jiang Mian noodlesβ€” I think I would pass on getting that again. Overall a solid dumpling spot in the Richmond District!
